The annual festival is a wonderful visualisation of devotional unity of a place where people still follow very old and sacred customs throughout the season. It is the time the village gets themselves into a feeling in which they become part of and enjoy the happiness of being part of the glory of Lord Rama. It is the festival where it pictures the great culture merging the normal and common life with great old mythologies. The festival begins in February second week lasting seven days. More than ten theyyams are performed here during the festival. Among them the theyyam named Daivathaar is the most important one. Devotees consider Daivathaar as a medium of Lord Rama. “Cultural Study, Environmental Portrait” by IIPian Joydeb Biswas India is an interesting and riveting potpourri of traditional cultural styles. Each style speaking stories of the land it belongs to. One such beauty lies in the masks made by the Gamari Wood at Mahishbathan which lies in South Dinajpur is Kushmandi block(West Bengal). These masks are based on mythological characters like Moshan, Narorakshas, Hanuman, Chamkali, Chamunda etc. with the wood also taking shapes of bamboo vases, trays, incense stands, pen stands etc. Scholars from different parts of the world have come here to observe the age-old intricate process of bamboo-carving. This involves bamboo pieces submerged in water mixed with mulberry gum powder, bleaching powder and sal. which are then taken out after a week and sun-dried. The wooden masks are meant for use in Gambheera dances or Palas (musical folk theaters). These ornate and hallowed wooden masks have carved a huge following in native Bengal and also around the globe. @r_j_photos_ #incredibleindia #art #craft #woodenmasks #bengal #culture #artisan #craftsmanship #artists #bambooart #amazingindia #india #mask #handicraft #learnphotography #photographycourses #lifeatiip #theworldisyours #photographyinstitute #thephotographyinstitute #iipians #indianinstituteofphotography
