What is the cultural purpose of portraiture? Portraiture teach us about the mood of a person, their values, lifestyle, environment, challenges and relationships. A powerful tool in representation, authentic expression and the study of what the world actually looks like when you remove the veneer and white wash. Art is important to culture because it can bridge the gap between religious groups, dialects, and ethnicities, can express common values, virtues, and morals that we can all understand and feel. Art allows us to ask important questions about life and society. • The Posed Portraits • Candid Portraits • Conceptual Portraits PC: IIPian Saransh Singh #portrait #photography #art #portraitphotography #instagood #photoshoot #artist #culture #history #nature #cultura #artist #heritage #tradition #travelphotography #kashi #lifestyle #explore #community #traditional #iipacademy #iipians #indianinstituteofphotography #iip #banaras
mohanamgaonkar_photography With TINA // SERIES' 3 of 3 ° I firmly believe that photography entails a cognitive process whereby the human brain naturally deciphers the image or photograph in question. The phenomenon of automatic image decoding, in my view, is truly splendid. ° Still life fine art is a genre of art that involves arranging inanimate objects in a visually pleasing composition. Skilled artists can use this genre to convey complex ideas and symbolism. Throughout history, famous still life photographers like edward Weston & many more have used this genre to share their thoughts and political views on society. Despite the term's association with death and stillness, still life fine art can be a vibrant and meaningful form of artistic expression. Mondrian's Glasses and Pipe Kertész took this photograph as part of a series of "portraits" of his friend, the painter Piet Mondrian, most of which do not feature the artist himself. Through using reflections, transparency and shadows, Kertész creates his portrait through absence, drawing the viewer's attention to Mondrian's "presence" through his abstracted possessions. The use of bold monochrome lines also evokes a sense of Mondrian's characteristic paintings, and Mondrian's advocacy for a simplified geometric aesthetic. The photograph epitomizes some of the key concerns of modernism, particularly through its espousal of radical new forms of expression and its attempts to capture beauty in mundane objects. The art critic Maria Morris Hambourg summed up the impact of the image in the following statement: "Kertész photographed only the table, cropping the top of the image and blackening the corners through overexposure, leaving only the emblems of their leader's concentration and rigor [...] The strictness of the abridgment, the harmony of the geometric elements, and the human character clinging to the spare, personal attributes, made this photograph an icon of European modernism from the first time it was exhibited, at Galerie Au Sacre du Printemps in Paris, in 1927." #artandphilosophy #andrekertesz #stilllife #visualdesign #historyofphotography #photographyphilosophy #modernism #photographyschool #monochrome

EXPRESSION IN MOTION by IIPian Sitanmay Maity. The fierce feeling of an artist and the hunger to convey it is a way of expression. At IIP, learning for our students spans across various cultures, timelines and art forms. Continuing with the thought of challenging their aesthetic sense, we are conducting a day-long photography session for BFA students which bring forth the imitation of the paintings of Raja Ravi Varma, hailed as one of the greatest painters in the history of Indian art. More than learning, it’s also about bringing alive our culture rooted deep in art. #iip #photographylearning #rajaravivarma #paintings #imitation #art #aesthetics #painter #culture #india #indianculture #indianart #theworldisyours #iipians #lifeatiip #thephotographyinstitute #conceptart #photographer #schoolofphotography
